South-Central Texas highlights
Acadian is top sponsor for Bexar County Heart Walk To help raise public awareness about the devastating effects of cardiovascular disease, Acadian Ambulance Service was the top sponsor of the Bexar County American Heart Association Heart Walk, making a corporate donation of $5,000. In addition, Acadian employees joined forces to participate in the November 2009 walk, raising thousands of dollars more. Acadian also provided on-site medical standby and first-aid coverage for the event. Coronary heart disease and stroke are the first and third leading causes of death in the United States; more than a half-million Texans die each year from cardiovascular disease, heart disease and stroke, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Inc. magazine honors Acadian for growth Acadian Ambulance Service, which expanded into Texas in 2006, has been selected as one of the nation's Top 100 fastest-growing companies by Inc. magazine. The company was ranked 50th on the "Top 100 Growth by Employees" list, and also was included on the "Inc. 5000" list, which ranks businesses by overall revenue growth over a three-year period. It was one of only four ambulance services to make the list. Acadian provides 911 emergency medical services to residents in the unincorporated areas of Bexar County and to 10 cities in the San Antonio area. The company also provides non-emergency transports to residents in Travis and Williamson counties. New ambulance design improves safety, saves money New ambulance design improves safety, saves moneyNew ambulance design improves safety, saves moneyAcadian Ambulance has introduced an innovative ambulance - one designed to be safer and more fuel-efficient - in Texas. The Dodge Sprinter, an emergency vehicle commonly used in Europe, gets almost twice the mileage of other ambulances in the Acadian fleet: 15 mpg compared to 9 mpg. The unit, which features large gold and green reflective stripes on the back, an LED exterior warning light and a light bar, is easier for other drivers to see at night or in bad weather. Shaped more like a passenger van than a truck, the Sprinter is not as heavy as other ambulances; however, it carries everything found in a larger unit. The smaller, taller Sprinter also handles better, making the ride more comfortable for patients. Acadian expands to Bexar County Spanning more than 1,200 square miles and with a population of more than 1.6 million residents, the unincorporated areas of Bexar County in 2009 selected Acadian Ambulance to provide 911 emergency medical services. Acadian also has contracted with 10 cities in the San Antonio area as the sole provider of emergency and non-emergency ambulance transportation. Those cities are Castle Hills, China Grove, Fair Oaks Ranch, Grey Forest, Hill Country Village, Hollywood Park, St. Hedwig, Somerset, Von Ormy and Windcrest. Acadian operates in these areas under a strict performance-based contract that is designed to improve response times, patient-care equipment and radio communications among public safety agencies. To ensure outstanding service, the company has installed Bexar County's 911 system in all its ambulances, which are located strategically throughout the community. Acadian named one of Austin's best Acadian Ambulance Service was selected as one the city's best and most admired companies for excellence in customer service by the Austin Chamber of Commerce. The company was a 2008 finalist in the customer-service category for medium-sized businesses. "Being selected as a finalist for this honor is a distinct and remarkable source of pride for all of our employees," said Chris Cirillo, the company's area vice president. "We are honored to be among such an impressive and elite group of great companies and businesses in Austin." Acadian was the only ambulance or medical transportation company nominated or selected as a finalist by the Chamber.
