Acadian responds to oil rig accident
June 11, 2010 Acadian Ambulance was contacted at 10:06 am for an accident with a jack up oil rig 15 miles southeast of Cocodrie, Louisiana, in the South Timbalier Offshore Block. Patients arrived by boat at Cocodrie Marine where Acadian medics are staged for the coastal oil spill cleanup operation. An Air Med emergency helicopter transported one patient at 11:57am to Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma. We have 5 ground ambulances transporting 34 patients to Terrebone Medical Center and Chabert Medical Center in Houma, Ochsner St. Anne's Hospital in Raceland and Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. Medics and Air Med are standing by waiting for 5 more patients to arrive by boat in Dulac at the L&L fuel dock. The patients do not appear to be critical at this point, mostly complaining of respiratory issues.
