FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, June 24, 2004

Officials of Acadian Ambulance Service have announced that Kelli Steele has been chosen as a finalist for the 2004 Paramedic of the Year award. Kelli represents Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Bernard parishes and works in St. Bernard parish. Each year the medics of Acadian Ambulance Service select one of their peers as the outstanding paramedic of the year.

“The honor we pay to our Medic of the Year for outstanding service is shared by all Acadian medics, and especially those who were bestowed the honor of nominee,” said Vice President of Operations, Steve Kuiper. "The nominees bring a high degree of professionalism to their jobs, as well as an attitude of caring and concern for the people they serve. We are proud to recognize Kelli as an outstanding medic in the field of emergency medical services and as the Medic of the Year Nominee for the New Orleans area.”

Although Steele is a new employee at Acadian Ambulance, she has proven herself to be a valuable asset to the team. Steele’s peers in their nomination said, “Kelli is a paramedic that truly leads by example and brings a ‘quiet calm’ to what can frequently be described as organized chaos.”

Steele resides in Violet with her children Tavin, Chase and Hailee.

The 2004 Medic of the Year will be announced at the annual Paramedic Luncheon on Wednesday, August 18 in Lafayette. U.S. Senator John Breaux will serve as master of ceremonies for the event where more than 800 guests from the medical community, elected officials and public safety agencies are expected to attend. Scheduled as guest speaker for the event is Surgeon General Richard Carmona.
